ConfiDANCE

Youth ballroom dancing program

Our foundation co-sponsors the ConfiDANCE program with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Nevada Institute for Children’s Research & Policy (NICRP). It is a Social Emotional Learning Movement (SELM) Program that utilizes ballroom dancing as a unique method to increase social-emotional learning in middle-school youths (ages: 11-14; grades: 6th-8th). During 2023-2024, we implemented this pilot program at three Title 1 middle schools and one after-school club in Las Vegas.

In Spring 2024, we invited these youths to compete at our Desert Challenge competition to gauge their progress and showcase their talents. It resulted in several students winning first-place awards, and the schools are planning to continue with our program. With additional funding, we could continue to positively impact our youths’ social-emotional skills by utilizing ballroom dancing.

Dance classes

What I like most about this program is how it built my confidence throughout each class. At first I was nervous and couldn’t get anything right but each class that went on, I saw myself improving and getting comfortable with dancing. This is not only boosted my confidence in dancing but in other aspects of my life too.
